Reports
from Campus Groups
Each Sub-committee or Group gave a summary of its
annual report which will be posted on the listserv for all of us to
read.
Pride Student Union - Michael R.
This is Pride
Week. Today is a national day of silence. Mike handed out schedules of
events. He reported that the group is redesigning tabling so that it is
not as intimidating for students who are not out. Slam Poetry is April 12
and a Lake Wauberg Picnic April 13th from 12 - 3. Mike felt that the most
significant event for the Pride Student Union this year was Elaine Pasqua
speaking on AIDS during World AIDS Day. The Pride Student Union will have new
flyers for fall. Pride has a new website at sg.ufl.edu/pride.
Campus
Climate Survey - Ken W.
Ken reported no news. Vice President Gail
Baker wishes to meet with Drs. Wald and Scott after the Board Meetings are over.
The plan remains to create a report on the LGBT campus climate.
Ken announced
a new class for fall called GLBTQ Jews and Judaism by Gwynn
Kessler.
Gator Gay Straight Alliance - Mike and Scott
The GSA
was incredibly active this year. Mike and Scott thought the most
effective activities were the same-sex handholding days that gained national
attention, the Greek Leader Training and RA Training sessions, and their
website. Next year they hope to conduct a Religion Professor Forum and to
continue the successful events from this year.
Student Senate -
Alex
Alex introduced Chat Hattaway who is a candidate for Alex's Cabinet
position. Alex thought that the student domestic partners health benefits, which
should occur in July was the greatest accomplishment of the Senate Office.
He noted that the end goal of his job is to eliminate the need for a senator
because there will be no need for new policies.
Rainbow Alliance -
Charles
This year the main focus was on keeping the organization active and
planning for an alumni connection (possibly a newsletter) and establishing an
LGBT Fund at the UF Foundation.
LGBT Awards Committee - Kim
Linda
read a report sent by Kim announcing that the winners this year wereKristen Joos
and Nishant Shahani. The report ended with a suggestion for an awards
ceremony and Linda said that she had recommended to the committee that they
reserve the Arradonda Room where we could all gather for a lunch and present the
awards. Linda will check with Kim on the feasibility of doing that this
year.
Committee on Sexism and Homophobia - Rich
The
committee held a series of luncheon discussions this semester and a film series
last summer. They are preparing a new flyer for Friends and will hold a
reception for Friends at the end of the year. A goal is to get the
LGBT.ufl.edu website up and running by summer.

Groups are reminded that we need an end of the
year report in writing from each related group for the next meeting. Both
paper and electronic forms are helpful so that Linda can write an end of the
year report to the Provost.
